Post 1- History D-DAY the beginning of the end

D-DAY was the most difficult battle of WWII. In the beginning of the battle the paratroopers landed behind enemy lines so they could flank the 88 guns trenches and bunkers. On the beach the German defenses where 10 feet high cement structures with mines strapped to them. There were also logs sticking out of the ground with mines strapped to them. The last thing were the hedgehogs, big x's that stop tanks.

Only 2 boats out of 12 arrived where they were supposed to be. The Germans where not able to launch many counter attacks because the Allies sent 156,000 troops. Still thousands of soldiers were killed the moment they stepped on shore by machine gun fire. The Allied troops were U.K., Canada and USA and the estimated amount of Germans where between 4,000 and 9,000.

D-DAY means the day on which the army operation begins. June 6, 1944 is remembered as D-Day. It was the turning point of the war against Hitler.

Post 3- How To Spit Shine Shoes

Get ready to shine your shoes because I'm about to tell you how.

1 Get an old dish rag or t-shirt and some shoe shining wax.

2 Rub the rag in the wax.

3 Then rub the rag on the toe of the shoe. Add more wax and work all around the shoe.

4 Rub in circles for the best shine.

5 Don't rub the wax in the creases of the shoe if it's old or the leather will crack.

6 Let the wax sit for 5 minutes to dry.

7 Buff with a shoe shine brush until smooth.

8 Now with a long clean cloth, rub vigorously all over until the shoe shines.

9 Now put some saliva or water on the cloth and rub it on the toe of the shoe. Polish real hard until it gleams.

10 Repeat with other shoe. Now you are ready for inspection.

Post 5- Summary D-Day

Part 5 – Summary D-Day Sawyer Shine

Learning about D-Day was an awesome assignment, and so far, my favorite assignment of the year. This is because I was able to read and write about D-Day a subject that really interests me. I learned some things I didn't know already. I learned that there were 100-foot cliffs on the beaches in Normandy where the Allied troops landed. It made me feel sad that thousands of soldiers died on those beaches.
I also learned that ‘’D-DAY ‘’was the turning point of the war. The Allied troops finally landed behind Hitler’s lines and that changed the direction of the war.
Working on this project made me want to visit the site in France one day. I particularly want to visit Omaha Beach where so much of the fighting occurred and so many men died.
My friends brought me back a rock from Omaha Beach that was buried in the sand. I will share this with my class. If I have the opportunity to go to Normandy I would like to see the German forts and bunkers, the museums, the beach, and the cemetery where the soldiers were buried.
I also thought it was a lot of fun to make a video of spit shining army boots as part of my project. I chose spit shining because it represents the discipline that is needed to be a good soldier. D-Day could not have happened without disciplined soldiers. I interviewed two different men. One is retired from the Navy, Tony Mylett and the other has just started Navy Seals training. From these two men, I learned that there is great respect among soldiers and pride in serving their country.
D-Day may have happened a long time ago but it really means something to me today.
